What does an electrical engineer do?
Main Post:
I know nothing about electrical engineering but so much about computer engineering even though they are pretty similar in uni courses.
What does an electrical engineer do and how will their job prospects grow? Isn't there a limited number of things that can keep getting developed, unlike software engineering? Like how more can you improve cars and computers.
And electrical engineers have much more freedom and flexibility in the type of field they get employed in after graduation right? Since they can work on light bulbs to computers to medical devices. In computer engineering students mostly go to software or computer hardware.
I also feel like many ppl want to study this field but just for the money.
Top Comment: My friend, someone needs to design the hardware for the software to run on :) There are many many different fields you can go into and different specialization which I will name just at few: embedded systems, circuit and PCB design, power systems, etc. in fields such as aerospace, R&D, IOT, power generation, distribution, and conversion(solar, gas, nuclear...), commercial and residential plans, electric vehicles (air, land, water), consumer goods, among others. I have worked on a variety of these fields and enjoy the diversity of my work. Often times I get to develop a prototype and work with small teams of engineers from other disciplines which is rad. I think software development (CS) usually pays a bit better, but man do I love this field. (There is always ways to get more lucrative compensation ;) )
